Untreated Dental Attrition Can Lead to Worsening Complications

Posted .

Your tooth enamel is designed to be hard enough to allow for efficient oral function in the breaking down and chewing of common foods. Yet uncorrected alignment issues with multiple teeth can cause the surface of one to grind excessively on the other.

In time the tooth enamel could gradually start to wear away. This could gradually degrade the area causing a chronic problem with dental attrition on a single tooth.

If it goes unnoticed or untreated the compromised area can gradually accumulate bacterial deposits which could foster a severe cavity. In some of these cases, the compromised structural integrity could lead to a significant dental fracture. Some people will also experience worsening tooth sensitivity in a tooth suffering from progressing dental attrition.

If you’ve noticed a gradual change with one of the surfaces of your teeth, or other abnormalities it’s best to have it examined by one of our experienced dentists, Dr. Char or Dr. Mashimo.

If it’s caught in a reasonable amount of time, a modest area of dental attrition might be repaired by installing a simple dental filling.

In a case of severe dental attrition or a tooth that has been structurally compromised he might recommend replacing the entire tooth enamel layer with a dental crown.

If you live in the Honolulu, Hawaii, area and you are concerned about the health of one of your teeth, you should call 808-450-2155 to have it examined and treated at Char Dental. Â
